Commander's Corner
Legionnaires,
As summer will be ending soon, we will start to shift into fall mode for the post. I hope all of you have enjoyed your summer, it once again was a hot and dry one. I am asking once again, we do our best to check in on our fellow legionnaires and vets to ensure they are doing well and see if there is anything they need. A quick reminder that the regular Legion meeting will be back on track for the 2nd Tuesday of the month and this month that is September 8th which is the day after Labor Day. I encourage all Legionnaires to attend our meetings. Participation from all members is vital to ensure we can stay strong and prosper as a post. The SAL meeting has been switched to the 1st Monday of the month ongoing, although this month they will be meeting on September 1st with a special event “Guns and Cupcakes”. More information can be found in the SAL portion of the newsletter but know all Legion members are invited to attend.
Membership drive continues and we are tracking pretty close to expectation for our renewals. If you have not already done so, please get those renewals completed so that we can once again achieve our 100% by the end of the calendar year.
Thank you to SPC Schmidt for his presentation around drill and ceremony.
As we move into September, we are well into planning and preparation for the Pig Roast that will be held at the Legion Hall on Sept 26th. Dennis is looking for some assistance so please, if able, reach out to him and let him know that you can help.
As the school year begins, Dennis and Andrew are working hard to get the honor guard set for the Becker football games. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to them or myself. I plan to have meetings with different levels of the school administration to encourage participation in various Legion activities such as Legionville Camp, Boys State and the Legion Oratorical to name a few. Also working to finalize plans and get information out to all of you on the school’s plans for Veterans Day. I would like to see as many of us out there as we can.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for all our many blessings and the gifts we are given to share. May we lift up in prayer our military both active and veteran. Lord, I do pray for our honest trustworthy politicians and also ask that the lying, cheating, stealing ones be removed from office and they be imprisoned as the crime would dictate. Lord, I also pray for correction of faults that honest persons may have facilitated and clarification of thought.
Lord, I also pray that our educational system be one that teaches students to read and write in cursive, without devises to learn real mathematical concepts and to encourage life skill practices both in school and at home. Lord, please help us all to be the example that this great nation was founded upon and “In God We Trust”,! May we all pray for wisdom for righteousness in Jesus’ holy name!

Hello Auxiliary members, we are now into September and winding down for the year. Not too much going on right now except for membership. You should have received your dues notice for 2027. Please mail them in with payment as soon as possible to Nellie our membership chairman.
We hope you had a beautiful summer and now our next season is upon us. Hope and pray we have a colorful fall with a very long Indian summer. Thank you very much for your membership and God Bless.

Greetings Sons,
Well, we are in the first month of fall. It is time to reorganize and lock in to our fall events. As always, we will be busy with a multitude of tasks. All of which are great ways to give back to each other and the community while also putting our best foot forward.
First off, we have our annual Guns n Cupcakes meeting on Tuesday the 1st at Dave Anderson's house (17762 97th St SE, Becker, MN 55308). All Legion Family are welcome. Bring you firearms, your family and a dish to pass. Range time is 5-7 with the meal and meeting to follow.
Next, we will be holding our Recipients Meeting sometime in September. This is an opportunity to meet with the groups we donate to and assess their needs. Clank n Thud has confirmed their tournament dates and so we will be dividing them up, settling on menu and discussing prices. It is our hope that it will be another fruitful season.
Other events we will be starting to move forward with are our Fall Craft Sale in November. The Facebook event is already up and we have half if our spaces reserved. Feel free to interact with the event to help spread it around. We will also be gearing up for Toys-for-Tots. The 1st meeting should be sometime in October.
Speaking of October, our next meeting will be on the 5th. If you can make it, please do. We always love to hear from our members and see where we can be of service. We are also in the midst of our membership drive. If you haven't renewed yet with us or on the mylegion.org website, please contact John Fischbach or Mick Boll.

Membership Spotlight
Mick Boll:
I’ve been a member of the Becker American Legion for 18 years. I have served as Adjutant, the Membership Director and for the past 10 years or more I have been the Gaming Treasurer. I am also a charter member of the Becker Sons of the American Legion. As an SAL member, I have been the Adjutant and Membership Director.
A short bit of info about my Naval service:
I joined the Navy Reserves in November of 1965 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I later transferred to Minneapolis Naval Air Base. In March of 1967 I received orders to report to Treasure Island Naval Base, San Francisco for active duty. I was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany CVA34.My job on the ship was yeoman for the three divisions of Boatswian Mates. The yeoman is the same as a company clerk.
The most tragic event that I witnessed firsthand was the USS Forrestal fire. On July29th, 1967 the Oriskany and Forrestal were running side by side, about to start flight operations. When, due to an electrical malfunction, a missile fired across the deck and into an aircraft loaded with bombs which exploded and started the fire. 134 sailors died because of the fire and 161 more were injured. It was one of the most tragic days in US Naval history.
In February 1968 we returned to San Francisco Naval shipyard for repairs. I was released from active duty in October 1968, after serving 18 months.
