Newsletter - July/August 2026

Commander's Corner

Legionnaires,

This is my first newsletter, and I want to start by thanking you for the honor of leading this post for the next year.  I look forward to the challenge and hope to continue to provide the caliber of leadership that my predecessors have given this post.

As has been stated many times, membership is the key to a successful organization.  In the coming months we will start our annual membership drive, and I challenge every one of us to do our best to bring in new members.  This is one thing that I want to emphasize over the coming year and working to get our numbers and participation up, especially with our younger vets.  One way I think we can do this is to continue to schedule events involving the community to bring awareness to who we are and what we do.

We have had a busy month starting off with the installation of our new Officers.  Thank you to our 6th District Commander and County Council Commander for attending.  We also conducted our annual unserviceable flag disposal, thank you to all who participated in that evening.  Friday morning, we gathered a group and loaded up the DAV trailer with all the items we had stored away.  Thank you once again to all of those who assisted with this, and with all the help we made quick work of the task.

We then quickly transitioned to Freedom Days.  The Friday night street dance and BAPE Live/Silent Auctions were a success.  A special thank you to the Auxiliary for the catering for this event.   Saturday was a huge success as well, again thank you to the Auxiliary and the SAL Squadron for serving food.  Thank you to all who helped with setup and clean-up to both events.  Both events were a big success.

One thing I realized quickly with these events is that when the entire American Legion Post #193 legion family work together, we are successful.  That is one of my goals for this year to ensure that the Legion Post, Auxiliary and SAL Squadron work together to ensure our success.  I would like to see more events to bring the community together and again spread our message.

As many of you know we have quickly rolled into garage sale mode.  Thank you to all who helped get this set-up and I would like to extend a huge thank you to Kevin for all his hard work to get this rolling.  As much as Kevin enjoys putting this on, any assistance is greatly appreciated during this time.  If you can help, please reach out to Kevin and coordinate this.  In addition to this we continue to solidify plans for the Pig Roast and DJ event in September, there will be more information coming out about that soon.

Our August meeting will need to be moved to the 3rd Tuesday of the month as the building will be needed for the primary elections.

Again, thank you for all the hard work and I look forward to working with all of you this next year to continue to move our post forward.

For God and Country,

Lee Croal

Chaplain's Corner

Heavenly Father,

Guide and protector we need to seek you always.

Lord, I pray your hands upon this country as we are being attacked in our own nation that should be proud to hold heads high as “One Nation Under God”!

The lack of assimilation and honesty by those coming to this country and also a real problem with some of our elected person’s that steal, cheat and lie and show a lack of respect for our society and the people they are sworn to serve!

Dear Lord, please, I pray that You help all Americans to stand tall and proud that because of great leaders that helped to shape this great country that we are able to celebrate a 250th birthday of America!

Lord, I pray for safety for our military, our nation, our children, our country as a boiling pot of Spiritual Renewal and faith in Jesus, and love and kindness for all!

God Bless all of you!

God Bless all services everywhere!

God Bless America!!

Auxiliary President's Corner

Summer has finally made its appearance. We were able to serve the Becker community on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 and we also had success with our three events over Freedom Days weekend, Friday night food, Am Legion parade float and the “Walking Tacos” served on Saturday afternoon.  Many hands make the work light. A huge thank-you to all who helped in any way to make these two big events possible.  We could not have done it without your help, you know who you are we thank-you for the time and help!  🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸we continue to be humbled by the generous people who come to support the American Legion in Becker🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸God Bless hope everyone has a blessed summer.

God bless America.

Sons of The American Legion

We made it through Freedom Days. We've all earned a well-deserved rest. I would like to thank everyone who helped out Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Between the planning, preparation, execution and clean-up, you all made the grade.

Looking forward, our next projects are building improvements and helping out with the garage sale. Everything got set out on the tables on the 21st. Now it is down to sorting and helping Keven out on sale days. I highly encourage anyone who can donate some time to stop in even if it is for an hour.

Our next meeting will be 21 July. We will be working on getting out new officers up to speed and mentoring our newer/younger members. One major clerical change was voted on in our last meeting. Starting 3 August, SAL meetings will be moved to the 1st Monday of the month. It is hoped that this will help streamline communication and cut down wait times for approval from the Post. It is going to be an adjustment. It is our intent that this propels the Squadron forward and help the family grow.

For God and Country,

Andrew J. Lee

SAL Commander

Membership Spotlight

In an attempt to being further visibility to the Legion Family and its members, those of us who produce the newsletter will be introducing a new article to the monthly edition and the website. Two of the main questions we have sought to answer recently are "Who are we?" and "What do we do?". To that end, our new article will highlight the members of the Legion and the veterans we serve. To do so, we will need the help of each family member (Post, Squadron and Auxiliary).

An article will be a short biography of a Post member consisting of how long they have been a Legion member, their time in the service, the branch they served in and one or two anecdotes. For Auxiliary and SAL members, an article will provide information on their involvement in the Legion and highlight the veteran that allows them to be eligible to be in the Legion.

Article submissions are entirely voluntary. We are developing a questionnaire that will be straight forward and easily accessible either on paper or our website. Any questions can be directed to either Mick Boll or Andrew Lee. More information to follow.

An Excerpt from the 2025 Officer’s Guide

A Post is only as effective as how it is perceived by the members, the public, and your community.  If the Post leadership thinks the Post is doing a good job, but still isn’t attracting and engaging new members, the Post leadership and members should reevaluate its purpose and make changes to be more visible to the community.

The Post is responsible to the veterans and children of its community, and to the community itself. The community judges each Post based on how active or how much your Post contributes back or gives back to the community.  Its success depends on the community viewing it as a positive and active partner.
