APRIL/MAY HAPPENINGS

Commander's Corner
Legionnaires,
Our last meeting was a day late due to Township elections. I hope everyone voted.
We have a very exciting event coming up. We are having a diner by the Auxiliary from 4-7 on May 1st. Live music and dancing will follow from 7-10. There are flyers out at local businesses with info.
Becker hosted the County Council meeting in march and the auxiliary served an excellent meal. Thank you, so much ladies. There was a lot of good information at the meeting. It was a fin night.
Memorial Day is coming up. All of those who participated in the ceremonies in previous years, please consider answering the call once again. We are losing members and thankfully, the SAL are taking up the slack. We are indebted to them for their dedication.
Our next meeting is April 14th at 7 pm. I hope you can make it. We should have Raffle tickets by then.
For God and Country,
Tom Lee

Chaplain's Corner
Heavenly Father,
Thanks for all the many blessings you share upon us all each and every day we just ask that you’re loving hands continue to be upon us as we look forward to the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as we celebrate Easter this year we just ask that you’re loving hands continue to be upon us upon our families that we may enjoy this beautiful weather you’re providing for us and that we continually be thankful for the gifts we are given.
Lord, I pray for our leaders, locally and nationally and especially for those that think fraud is a positive way of life.
I pray your guiding hands will be the hands to rectify this serious lack of morality and to remedy the extreme fault.
May all law-abiding persons have a safe and blessed Easter and thank the Lord, Jesus Christ for our gifts.
Please watch over our military here and abroad!
Stay safe and Enjoy!
God Bless all of you!
God Bless America!

Auxiliary President's Corner
Auxiliary,
Hello auxiliary members time to get busy and working again. The auxiliary will be involved in the open house on May 1. The Legion guys have a band rented and we will be the ones serving a meal. If you can volunteer to help out for an hour or two on May 1 for the evening meal, please let Nellie or Paula know as soon as possible. Happy spring to everyone Easter Blessings to you and your families.
As usual, if you have any questions or concerns ideas or just need to speak with the auxiliary officer, please let Paula or Nellie know.
God bless America.
Sincerely,
Paula Hinds president
Sons of The American Legion
Greetings Sons,
Now is the Spring of our workload. We may be starting April with a holiday; we will have to roll-up our sleeves and get to work soon after. Especially now that we have secured our position as host for the 2027 State Convention. The vote was cast 21 March at the Spring Conference. Vice Cmdr. Dave A., Randy M. & Chris S. were in attendance to represent the Post. We can now go full steam on further restorations and implements of the hall.
As for this month, we have a packed schedule. The Robotics Granite City Regional is set for 10 & 11 April. We are still looking to secure people for the color guard. Currently, we have about 5 people per day and we would prefer 6 or 7. I realize that might be a lot to ask because we're double-booked with our last Saturday Lunch with the Archery team being the same weekend. I'm sure that we will properly represent for both groups.
The following weekend will be our Craft Sale on the 18th & 19th. We are now up to 17 of our 20 spots covered with representation from the food shelf and a table to sell Raffle tickets. I will be contacting each crafter to confirm spacing and needs.
Our next meeting on 21 April. It will be the midway point of this crazy month and we will be discussing the Legion College at the end of the month and Memorial Day which will be 25 May. If you can attend or help out at any of these events, it would be extremely appreciated. I hope everyone has an enjoyable Easter.
For God and Country,
Andrew J. Lee

Developing Leaders:
An excerpt from the 2025 American Legion Officers Guide:
While some members hold the same office year after year, that is not necessarily healthy for a Post, in fact it hinders the Post more than it helps. There is always a need for fresh insight from new volunteer leaders, and Post leadership should develop a training plan of succession, which will ensure the Post will succeed in the future.
If a Post is productive and the present officers have been effective, there should be competition for elected Post offices. Sometimes someone may have to be encouraged to run for Post Commander or other offices. This is especially true in small Posts, where many members have already served. Leadership succession should be anticipated and planned. Present Officers and active members must be on the lookout for future leaders, Legionnaires showing ability and interest should seek opportunities to affect the organization positively.
