Commander's Corner

Legionnaires

I hope your summer is going well. Things going on this month are our garage sale, gambling’s gun raffle, and on post improvements.

On Freedom Days, the nonunion teachers held a silent and live auction to raise money for our post. It brought in $8,634.08. Many thanks for their contribution to the post.

John Riebel and I went to the Minnesota American Legion State Convention on July 11th. It was my first time so John explained how it worked. It was an interesting experience. There were a lot of reports and voting. They cleared some old, out of date rules off the books.

Hearing all the program reports makes you realize the work done by the Legion posts for our state and local communities. The preamble states our purpose as legionnaires and our responsibility to mankind. This should not be taken for granted. Those who lived through the horror of war and those who study the effects of war know the beauty of peace. May we all strive to make this a better world to live in and make right the master of might.

For God and Country,

Tom Lee

Chaplain's Corner

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for all our man blessings. Lord, I pray your compassionate hands be upon those experiencing tragedy of any type and that they may receive peace and comfort. May your hands be upon those that have health concerns. Lord, I also pray for security in this great “One Nation Under God” country we call home! Please bless those in public office for clarity of what they were hired to do and for what purpose as well! All these I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our savior! Blessings upon all for safety for the remainder of summer time.

God Bless all of you!

God Bless America!

Auxiliary President's Corner

Auxiliary,

Not much for the Auxiliary going on now. Just want to thank everyone for helping out over the past months of may through June. We could not have done it without your help. I hope and pray the rest of your summer goes well. As usual, if you have any ideas, challenges, requests, or information on how to make our Auxiliary better, please contact Nellie or Paula.

Sincerely,

Paula Hinds

President of the Auxiliary

Sons of The American Legion

Greetings Sons,

The summer marches on as do we. On July 19th, we marched in the Sherburne County Parade. Due to a scheduling error with a funeral the Elk River Legion needed to give honors at, we were upgraded from guests in the parade to leading it. It was something to see Squadron 193 front and center for the festivities.

That day and the following morning, we also posted the colors at the fairgrounds for two additional events. I would like to thank everyone who attended, especially two of our newest members Will and Chris along with the Legion and Auxiliary members who helped. I love how we come together as a family to accomplish our goals and help other posts.

Summer is also the time for renewing our membership for the upcoming year. At our July meeting, we were able to renew 26 of our 36 members. If you have not yet, please get hold of either John Fischbach or myself and we will square you away.

Our next meeting will be on August 19th but before then we will have to make some headway on our September event. The Becker Food Shelf will be our recipient this year so we will coordinate with them and get flyers out as soon as we can. I will also be reaching out to crafters to gauge interest and set a date for our craft sale.

Sadly, it looks as if our break will be short-lived but I, personally don't mind very much. It is my honor to serve this community and to do so with all of you. I hope you are enjoying your summer and that I see you all soon.

For God and Country,

Andrew J. Lee

SAL Commander
